Honor your journey – reflections of your 2023
If you prefer to watch rather than read, here is a quick video
Hello Courageous Leaders! Today I want to remind you of the importance and power of reflection. Where you are, what you’ve accomplished, and what didn’t go as planned?
Reflecting on your past year can be beneficial for several reasons:
- We often forget everything we’ve accomplished. Reminding ourselves breeds further success as it puts us in a positive mindset
- We need to remember that we can overcome the hard stuff. Yes, we wouldn’t wish adversity to be part of our journey and yet remembering what we’ve moved past or through can remind us of our resilient spirit
- Where we’re at helps us keep stock of our progress – have you done everything you set out to do for 2023? If yes, what’s next? If no, what might you do differently or prioritize as you move into 2024?
Sharing My Progress:
2023 was a weird year for me in that it was both beautiful and terrible in some ways. First off, I was hit with a law suit in February which I didn’t see coming. It was all in response to an effort to right a wrong I had felt nagging at me since I left a toxic job. I obviously can’t speak more about it but if you follow the local news, you know about it.
2023 was also the year I published my book Leave It All On The Dancefloor. It was a tough process but one I am grateful to have seen through. The key point that kept me going when I wanted to give up here was to have a bigger “Why”. It was the 23 amazing women who shared their stories with me that kept me going and I’m so glad I did.
A highlight of my 2023 was the book Launch party. Masterfully hosted by my fabulous friend, Jodi Hughes, I got to connect with my Family, Friends, and some of the women contributors for a discussion around the content and the process. If you missed the replay, you can check it out here.
During the launch, we also debuted the Leave It All On The Dancefloor song which was a beautiful collaboration of my words, my husband’s music and my stepdaughter’s voice. What a nice family keepsake to have. You can listen to it here.
It was the best of times, it was the worst of times. In the same month that my book launched, I also decided to step away from a lucrative but toxic contract. It was a tough decision that almost put us in financial ruin but luckily some earth angels stepped in and helped out until I could get back on my feet. This is the second time doing what felt like “the right thing” knocked me on my a$$.
In early August, we had a fantastic family reunion. It was hectic but I SO enjoyed our time together. We got out on the lake, had some fabulous meals, enjoyed epic evening sing-alongs, and definitely had some laughs.
Shortly after, disaster struck again. The BC Wildfires came knocking and we almost lost our house. The beautiful forest behind our property that offered privacy, sound barrier, and beauty has been completely cut down. While I feel incredibly blessed and lucky that my house stands, I am also sad about the trees that brought me such comfort and joy.
Christmas is one of my favorite times of year. It’s been a tradition of ours 20+ years to get a giant tree and this year did not disappoint. We will be spending this year with family and friends after 3 years alone so I am grateful to be back together with the ones we love most to celebrate.
